From Nong Khiaw i decided to go to Muang Ngoi, a small village to which you can only get by boat. But what a charm that is! It’s very tiny but so nice. We had electricity for 2 hours a day and that was fine with me. I was just happy being there for Christmas without all the Christmas fuss. I woke up to the sound of roosters crowing and it felt so nice. Simplicity of life. I walked around the village and found this nice little path that led me to another village nearby. I learned again about how simple life really is and how little i need to be happy.
Simplicity of life. Village near Muang Ngoi.
Life in Laos has a very slow pace and the people are one of the nicest i’ve ever met. They are so easygoing and always smiling. It’s a society you feel very welcomed in and it’s nice to be around people that live simple lives and seem to be very happy with it. Great inspiration indeed.
After Muang Nhoi i explored Nong Khiaw for a few more days and spent New Year’s there. I loved that there wasn’t any fuss about that either and i could just swung in my hammock until i fell asleep. I woke up to the first day of 2012 and continued my way to Luang Prabang.
Cycling around Nong Khiaw
Luang Prabang is another charming town. It has a very special character with all those Buddhist temples and monks all around. It was nice to walk around a bit and explore the hidden streets. I found some lovely spots to rest my mind at.

After Luang Prabang i made a quick stop at the capital, Vientiane, but it wasn’t a very pleasant experience. I arrived at night and couldn’t find a place to stay so in the end i slept in some dump and i couldn’t wait to get out of there. So in the early morning i went on to go to Thakhek. I decided that that will be my last stop in Laos and that i will continue my adventure back in Thailand.
