From Bac Ha i stopped in Sapa for a day but i didn’t like it because there were too many tourists for me. So i continued my way to Dien Bien Phu, a historic city near the border with Laos. It was another strange city, but i didn’t care about that anymore because i was leaving Vietnam and heading on to Laos. My overall impression of Vietnam is somewhat confused. I didn’t really like the Southern part but the more i went to the North, the more fond of the country i was becoming. Bac Ha was a place i loved the most and i felt almost at home. So i was very happy i went to Vietnam and for all the experiences i got there, pleasant and unpleasant, but i’m not really sure i’ll come back again.

Laos is a whole new story. All the greenery that greets you right from the border on is so welcoming. I knew immediately i’ll love it. And i did, so very much. It’s such a laid back country, so easygoing and easy to love. Charming and beautiful, this is Laos. The mini bus from Vietnam took a long time to get to a small village of Muang Khua but eventually it did. The road stops by the river and you have to get across it by boat.

Muang Khua is nice to walk around and to meet some really nice and friendly people. After a few days i headed towards Luang Namtha, which was a different kind of town, bigger and much more modern. It was nice for a couple of days but then i moved on to Udomxai, another pretty big town. I spent my birthday there and then continued my way to Nong Khiaw. There i found myself again, happy with the abundance of nature and nice walking trails.
