Vietnam: the North (Hue, Hanoi, Bac Ha)

A little more optimistic about Vietnam i went on to Hue. It was raining all the time i stayed there but i didn’t really mind it. It was interesting to see all these people on motorbikes wearing colorful rainsuits. I also walked around the old imperial city which makes you feel like you’re wandering around a different time and space.

After Hue i went to Hanoi. Although i don’t like big cities i felt comfortable in Hanoi. I don’t know why but i found it very charming, especially those hidden narrow streets and the different vibe it has. My plans to go to Halong Bay didn’t work out because of the rainy weather so instead i was exploring Hanoi and eating some great food.

Life in Hanoi

I decided to continue my way to Bac Ha, a small village in the very Northern part of Vietnam. I loved it because there were hills and nature. And really nice people. There are a lot of different ethnic groups living around Bac Ha and the most distinctive might be Hmong. They wear this traditional colorful and lively outfits that i really liked. I also went to see the Can Cau market which is not very well known amongst the tourist and that is a great thing. I went with a local bus and it was all a very authentic experience – there were no other tourists besides a Belgium couple so we really got to see what a market looks like. Definitely worth the visit!
